One reason I enjoy red fishing is that it can be so challenging and on some days, large schools of redfish seem to be everywhere. Yesterday was a challenge, including a high flood tide when my charter guest Gary Boecenkamp and I departed from the Fernandina Harbor Marina. After running up several small creeks we soon found that the falling tide was running too hard in several of my favorite redfish ambush locations.
With only a few hours left in our four hour charter, I soon power poled down where a creek drained into t a small oysterbar, strategically located close to a deep cut in the marsh. First cast with a live shrimp under a float, Gary hooked into a seven-pound redfish and it was game on. Gary later changed to a live shrimp barbed on a 1/4 ounce led head jig which allowed the seasoned angler to put his redfish bait right in the strike zone. Fifteen redfish later we called it a morning and headed back to the historic footsteps of Fernandina Beach and the Fernandina Harbor Marina.
Gary is a repeat guest, frequently returning to some of the Southeast's best redfish waters, Amelia Island Florida!
